Zenith City: A Delux and Calm Residential House

Ching Ya Chou's Humanistic Design

Considering the worldwide trend of simple luxury, Ching Ya Chou took on the challenge of creating a deluxe and calm living space through humanistic design. Instead of relying on lavish add-ons like crystal chandeliers and precious metals, Chou aimed to establish a luxury residence full of oriental charm and humanism that echoes the image of the granite slabs used on the exterior of the building.

Chou's design for Zenith City stands out for its unique approach to luxury. Rather than relying on artificial luxuries, Chou replaces them with natural textures, refining the design language from traditional culture. The result is an antiseismic and safe residence that represents oriental aesthetics of abundance.

One of the standout features of Zenith City is the use of complete pieces of Chibi marble slabs with natural textures. These slabs bring out a surging momentum, adding a sense of grandeur to the space. Additionally, Chou reappears the image of Chinese splash-ink paintings using a complete piece of marble slab with a landscape texture, conveying a feel of serenity from oriental elements.

Chou's design team, including Chun Fong Wu, played a crucial role in bringing Zenith City to life. Their research drew inspiration from Taiwan's National Palace Museum, a historic and cultural treasure trove that provided a millenary of humanistic development for the designers to explore. By applying natural textures and totems transformed from palace emblems of deluxe and abundance, Chou aimed to promote the rebirth of a new kind of luxury residence.

The design of Zenith City also presented its fair share of challenges. One notable solution was layering a metal net beneath the wooden grate partition at the hallway entrance. This created a unique appeal of an oriental window frame and expressed a design language of symmetry and repetition in oriental aesthetics. Another challenge overcome was the application of golden colors throughout the interior, including golden amber at the bar and kitchen, as well as gold foil over the dining table. These elements symbolize ancient royal glory, reflect an image of living in affluence, and fill the interior with magnificent light.

Zenith City is a testament to Ching Ya Chou's ability to create a luxury residence that goes beyond superficial opulence. By prioritizing natural textures, refining design language, and incorporating oriental elements, Chou has crafted a space that exudes calmness, serenity, and a sense of abundance.
